Tournament Rules & Format

Five Competitions

Three singles and two doubles competitions, each with its own traditional eight-entry single-elimination bracket. Quarterfinals: 1 vs 8, 4 vs 5, 3 vs 6, 2 vs 7; then semifinals and a final.

Seeding

The tournament director determines seeds using head-to-head results and each player’s most updated UTR. Seeds are assigned separately for each competition.

Team Points

Each singles or doubles match victory earns one team point, including championship matches. No points are awarded for a play-in round win.

If a No. 1 seed is awarded a bye, it earns one team point. Following a late substitution to that top seed, the bye point is awarded only if the substitute wins the next round. The current eight-entry brackets do not require byes or play-ins.

Lineups & Substitutions

Submitted lineups may not change after challenge matches or because of postponements. Substitutions are permitted for illness or injury and must be approved by the tournament director.

All schools and players commit to participate, including when postponements require missing classes.

Tennis Balls

Each team must bring five cans of tennis balls.

Insurance

Each participating school must provide a Certificate of Insurance naming Pingry for October 18 and Wardlaw-Hartridge for October 22 as additionally insured.
